If you go for leisure, stay in Fairmont Gold

Fairmont Chicago is mainly a business hotel. It was built late 1990 and you still feel it in the rooms. I would say it’s perfect for a short stay while attending an event, but don’t expect anything special. HOWEVER. I was lucky enough to experience the Fairmont Gold rooms and experience between the 14th and 16th floor. Those rooms were refurbished recently and oh my, what an experience. It is truly a hotel within a hotel. If you’re going for leisure, please book a Fairmont Gold room. The staff is nicer and friendlier than my experience in a regular room, the room is brighter, bigger and you truly feel in a Fairmont.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Fairmont Chicago. The view from our room was spectacular. The bed was extremely comfortable. Food and drinks were top notch. Best of all, as with any Fairmont, was the unmatched service. Everywhere we went there was a friendly hotel staff ready to greet us with a smile and provide assistance. We especially appreciated the help offered by the concierge, Gail Walker. She as ready to answer all of our questions about dining, sight seeing and getting around Chicago, which was greatly appreciated since it was our first trip to the area.

I was there for a conference. The receptionist was very welcoming and accommodating for our needs. The rooms were really nice and clean. The location was great and close to many of the attractions in chicago. Over all great experience. Highly recommend

I stayed at the Fairmont Chicago while on a business trip. The staff were quick at check in and attentive in both the restaurant and Gold Lounge.

Great Location - Disappointing Experience

This hotel is beautiful and in a fantastic location, however I was very disappointed with my experience overall. When I arrived, I was given the wrong type of room key for my room and couldn't get in, so I had to bring all of my luggage back downstairs to have my key replaced. The room I was provided with was a wheelchair accessible room, I am guessing because it was a very busy week in Chicago with many conventions, however I was not a fan of the way the water from the shower would spread over half of the bathroom floor. Another major issue with the shower in this room (603) is that the temperature markings for the shower are reversed - In order to get even lukewarm water you have to turn the handle all the way over to C - if you turn it to H all you get is cold water. My room also did not have any hand soap when I checked in. Did any of these issues ruin my stay? No. I am not that easily upset. But overall the experience was one I would expect from a much cheaper and lesser caliber hotel than a Fairmont, so there is certainly some room for improvement.
